This policy explains how vdrauto.co.uk uses cookies and similar technologies, what each one does, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. Similar technologies, such as browser storage, work in a comparable way. They can be needed for a website to work, or used for other purposes such as remembering preferences, measuring visits or advertising.
Under UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), we can only use cookies that are strictly necessary without asking you. For anything else, we must ask for your consent first.
2. Our approach
- We only use strictly necessary cookies by default.
- We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- The only optional third-party content is the Google Map, which sets Google’s own cookies. It only loads if you press Accept on our cookie banner, or click “Show map” on a page with the map.
- Reject is as easy as Accept, and rejecting does not stop you using any part of the website. You can still get directions to us with the Get Directions button.
3. Strictly necessary cookies and storage
These are needed for the website to work or to provide something you have asked for. They do not need your consent.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| vdr_cookie_consent | VDR AUTO | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies, so we do not ask on every page | 6 months |
| vdrV12 (browser session storage, not a cookie) | VDR AUTO | Keeps your VDR V12 chat conversation while you move between pages. Only created if you use the chat. | Deleted when you close the tab |
| __cf_bm and similar Cloudflare security cookies | Cloudflare | Only if Cloudflare protection or Turnstile is active: tells people and automated bots apart to protect our forms and website | Up to 30 minutes |
| wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* | VDR AUTO (WordPress) | Only for VDR AUTO staff who log in to manage the website. Customers visiting the website do not receive these. | Session, up to 14 days for login and 1 year for admin preferences |
4. Optional cookies (only with your consent)
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| NID, AEC, SOCS and other Google cookies | Google (google.com) | Set by Google when the embedded Google Map loads, for example to remember preferences and protect against abuse. Google controls these cookies. | Typically up to 6 months (NID) and up to 13 months (SOCS) |
For details of how Google uses information from its cookies, see Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy and its cookie information at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.
5. Changing your choice
- Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page to open the cookie banner and choose Accept or Reject again at any time.
- If you reject after previously accepting, the map stops loading automatically. Any Google cookies already set stay in your browser until they expire or you delete them in your browser settings.
6. Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Help is available from your browser provider: Google Chrome (support.google.com/chrome), Safari (support.apple.com), Mozilla Firefox (support.mozilla.org) and Microsoft Edge (support.microsoft.com). Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the website working, such as remembering your cookie choice or the security check on our quote form.
7. Other websites
Links to Google Maps, Google reviews and Facebook take you to those services, which set their own cookies under their own cookie policies.
8. Changes to this policy
If we add any new cookies, for example analytics, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before setting any that are not strictly necessary. The date at the top shows when this policy was last changed.
9. Contact us
If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at info@vdrauto.co.uk, call 01382 722039, or write to VDR AUTO, 42 Frederick Street, Dundee, DD3 8RR.
